      What does each country need to do?

      What does each country need to do?

      Each country needs to take two practical steps to make its national e-identification schemes accessible and to use those of other Member States for cross-border online services. They must:

      implement their own eIDAS-Node;

      support the connection of digital identity and national attribute providers to the eIDAS-Node.

      The European Commission, through the DIGITAL programme, provides a tool that allows anyone to visualise the current interconnections between eIDAS nodes based on the declaration of the Member States.

      The Commission Implementing Decision (CID) EU 2015/296 sets out the procedure for cooperation between Member States in the field of electronic identification.

      The CID:

      states that each State must have a single point of contact with its competent authorities and bodies, to enable effective cooperation and simplify administrative procedures. Indeed, different elements of electronic identification systems are managed by different authorities or bodies within each State.

      requires each Member State to designate a one-stop office, which must be notified to the other Member States and the Commission, providing all the necessary information. The list of one-stop offices is published online by the Commission.

      For more specific information on a particular eIDAS-Node, Member States publish contact details for support and for a technical contact via eIDAS node metadata.
